Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Program is a 11 month- 1376 hour program consisting of Classroom and Clinical Experience – which is attained at local hospitals or long-term care facilities. Coursework includes general and specialized nursing subjects.

Approximately 40% of the program is spent providing nursing care in health care institutions throughout the region.

This course includes Nursing Principles and Skills, Body Structure and Function, Medical and Surgical Nursing, Nursing Issues, Pharmacology, Normal Nutrition, Normal Growth and Development, Maternity Nursing, Nursing of Children, and Pre-employment Skills.

Upon Completion of Coursework the student is awarded a certificate- career passport and becomes eligible to sit for the State Board Exam.

Admission Policy

  • You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Graduate from a State Department of Education approved high school or have GED equivalency certificate.
  • Pass required standards on pre-entrance and assessment tests which evaluate math and reading skills.
  • Interview with the director.
  • Provide personal and employer references.
  • Submit health information.
  • Must be able to transfer clients safely, read charts and collect objective data, such as auscultation of body sounds. Immunizations are required.

Prospective students will be notified of their admission status after review of all pre-entrance requirements by the Admission Committee.

All students must maintain a minimum average of 78% in all classroom work and pass clinical work.

93% attendance required. Successful LPN graduates receive a certificate, school pin, and are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN licensing exam.

Faculty Our faculty is made up of highly qualified Registered Nurses. All instructors are licensed by the State of Ohio board of Nursing and are certified by the State Department of Education.

Apollo School of Practical Nursing is approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing, the State of Ohio Department of Career Technical Education, and is accredited by the Counsel on Occupational Education (COE).

  • 1988 Graduate Lima Technical College / Assoc. Degree/Applied Science in Nursing
  • 1996 Graduate Franklin University – Columbus/ B.S.N. Nursing
  • 2002 Graduate University of Phoenix/ Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Experience- Assisted Director of Nursing/ Patient Assessment Nurse, and In-service Coordinator in a skilled long term care facility for 3 plus years,4 plus years as a nurse on a busy medical and surgical floor, 5 plus years working as a nurse in a skilled long term care facility caring for geriatric patients.
  • 2 plus years as a nurse aide trainer is a skilled long term care facility
  • Experience as a CPR Instructor
  • Instructor here at Apollo School of Practical Nursing since 1995 in the skills lab and clinical areas in Medical, Surgical, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and Long Term Care Facilities/Units. Experience as classroom instructor in the following courses: Fundamental Skills, Nutrition, Obstetrics, Medical and Surgical Nursing, and Issues and Trends in Nursing.
  • Currently the director of the program since 2007.
  • Inducted as Cambridge Who’s Who Lifetime Member in 2008 for Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs; then in January 2009 was recognized as Cambridge’s Professional of the year representing Health Care Training.
  • Appointed to the American Health Council Board of Nurses in 2017, and recognized as a leader in Nursing.

You can do this at any time; even before Step 1.

ArrowSTEP 3: Once the LPN department has the required items on file, you will be notified to begin testing.

ArrowSTEP 4: Work Keys and HESI testing (by appt. only).  Links to study for these tests will be provided.
