Welding and Fabrication Technology
Apollo Career Center is an Accredited Test Facility (ATF) for the American Welding Society. It is one of only four in the state of Ohio. This accreditation means Apollo can test and upon completion, grant American Welding Society (AWS) certification. The nationally recognized certification proves the student has the fundamental welding knowledge leading business and industry not only needs, but requires.
Through classroom and hands-on training, students will gain knowledge and practice in the following:
- Welding Fundamentals and Metrology
- Math for Welders
- Blueprint Reading / Metallurgy
- Oxy Fuel Welding/Cutting
- MIG (Gas Metal ARC Welding)
- ARC Welding
- TIG Welding (Gas Tungsten ARC Welding)
- Pipe Welding
- Professional Development: Resume writing, job search and interviewing skills and employability training
The program is 900 hours and meets Monday – Thursday from 6 – 10 p.m.

The welding industry is strong. When you obtain your certification from Apollo’s Adult Education you have successfully demonstrated you have the skills needed for entry level employment in a wide variety of welding and fabrication skilled trade occupations. Some graduates start their own business while others become welders, fabricators, pipefitters or inspectors in manufacturing, infrastructure, Heating and Cooling (HVAC) or even the shipping industry.
Some of the most common welding jobs include Pipeline Welder, Structural Welder, Pipe fitter Welder, Boilermaker Welder and Aerospace Welder. Pipeline fabrication and repair jobs are growing due to the demand for oil and other fossil fuels. Other growing areas in the field include agricultural equipment, highway infrastructure, rail transport, energy production and the petrochemical industry.
There are also excellent long-term career options for welders in automated and robotic welding, teaching, quality control, welding inspection, management, sales and consulting.
Customized Training Available
Apollo offers customized training for area business and industry in manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, public safety and computer technology.
We can provide high quality skills training at your company or on Apollo Career Center’s main campus.

Apollo has articulation agreements which link the classes taken at Apollo with courses offered at State supported two-year colleges. The intent of the articulation plan is to recognize student achievement in career programs by providing advanced placement at the college level. The advanced credit earned reduces the number of credit hours needed for a degree. Students will not need to re-take classes already completed.

Financial Aid availableAccording to the Department of Labor, www.lmi.state.oh.us, “Employment of welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers is expected to experience little or no change, declining by about 2 percent over the 2008-18 decade. Continued enhancements in productivity and increased automation will reduce the need for welders, although the outlook for welders in manufacturing is stronger than that for other occupations in this industry because of the importance and versatility of welding as a manufacturing process.”
